Extremists Threaten Kidnapping Survivors

Nupur* (17) and her cousin, Rekha,* were walking home from college on the evening of 2 April when they were stopped and kidnapped by a group of men.

Three days later, authorities rescued the two girls. Unfortunately, Rekha had already been forced into a legal marriage with one kidnapper. She has since returned to him by force.

“Nupur and Rekha were very bright students,” Nupur’s uncle said. “They are very good at music and dance. They have goodwill among the local people. For this reason, [the men] intentionally have done this to them. Now their lives are destroyed.”

Weeks on, the kidnappers have continued tormenting the girls’ families. One of the men has been calling Nupur’s phone, threatening to kidnap her again and force her into marriage. Nupur rarely leaves home for fear of her life.

Her uncle said, “We cannot guard her all the time. We have to go out for work. We do not know how many days we can protect her. Every single moment we live under fear and insecurity. We are mentally depressed and frustrated.”

“We don’t know what to do,” Nupur’s father said.

“He is constantly calling over phone and threatening us. We are guarding our daughter, but we don’t know how many days we can do this.”

Please pray with Nupur, Rekha, and their families.
