EGYPT | MEN SENTENCED FOR ATTACK

An Egyptian court has handed a prison sentence to 10 men for an attack on a Christian community.

The men destroyed Christian property and dragged a 70-year-old woman, Suad Thabet, onto the street. The court has since found them guilty and sentenced each to five years in prison.

While this marks a positive step, many more incidents of persecution remain unresolved.

One local Christian leader said, “In this case, [the attack] caused uproar on social media. The shameful assault of an elderly lady is unacceptable and still causes anger. This might have forced the judicial authorities to push for an acceptable verdict.

“However, there is still a long way to go before Christians will receive justice for the minor harassments and conflicts they face on a daily basis.”

Will you join us in praying for the future of the Egyptian Christian community?

Pray For Egypt:

  • Pray for comfort and healing over those affected by the attack.
  • Pray Egyptian Christians will receive the strength to love and forgive their persecutors.
  • Pray God will move in the hearts of authorities and extremists.
