INDIA | RISING VIOLENCE AGAINST CHRISTIANS

New data from Open Doors’ local partners reveals an alarming rise of violence targeting Christians in India.

But according to experts, there are likely countless more cases going unreported.

“We know that the reported figures are just the tip of the iceberg,” said an Open Doors spokesperson.

“Many incidents go unreported…. many Christians in rural areas think that persecution is normal, and they can’t do anything about it. They don’t know their rights. And the pandemic is another factor. Our partners are less able to investigate incidents due to all the restrictions.”

In 2019, local partners recorded eight murders, compared with 18 in 2020. Another 1,676 believers reported experiencing physical abuse in 2019. Last year, that number rose to 1,893. There were 51 reports of damage to Christian homes or properties in 2019, a number which rose to an astounding 201 one year later.

Through your support last year, our partners were able to give emergency relief to 126,000 Christians in India. 80% of those had faced discrimination while trying to receive aid from local authorities.

As violence and discrimination rise, will you join us in praying over India today?

Pray For India:

  • Pray that persecution won’t discourage believers but convict them to share the love of Jesus.
  • Pray for the physical and emotional healing of those affected by violence.
  • Pray that persecutors’ hearts will be transformed and that they will come to know Jesus.
