Oumar (20 years old) is from the Far North Region of Cameroon. On 20 January 2026, Boko Haram shot him in the leg during a devastating attack on his community. Pray for Oumar who continues to experience serious health concerns and challenges after the shooting with the bullet still dangerously lodged in his body.
On the evening of 20 January, Boko Haram attacked a community in the Far North Region of Cameroon, killing more than 12 people. Young Oumar, only 20 years of age, was left with a bullet wound that continues to remind him of the brutality of that night.
Oumar’s neighbour was one of the people killed in the attack. “The same Wednesday that he died, we spent the day digging the grave and buried him,” Oumar recalls. “In the evening, Boko Haram arrived at 9pm. They took us, and they pulled the elder brother of the one who died… and they took me… After taking me out of the city, I told them I would not go with them. I cried for help, and then they shot me,” he explains.
Boko Haram killed Adama Moussa whom they had pulled away, alongside Oumar. Adama was a member of the Protestant church, married and a father of seven.
Oumar survived, but he was seriously wounded. “After they touched my head to check if I was dead (still breathing), they left me and went away. When they left, I cried and cried. My mother arrived and found me, and then more people arrived to help. They asked me what happened, and I told them that Boko Haram shot me.”
Unable to walk, Oumar was rushed to Mora District Hospital, where he underwent surgery on his injured leg. He spent about 20 days in hospital.
Oumar currently lives with his cousin and continues to receive medical attention. His medical bills have so far been covered through family, church contributions, and the goodwill of struggling Christians from his own community. Yet, the bullet remains perilously lodged in his body.
“The hospital tried to remove the bullet, but it was complicated. So, I wait for God to help me in my suffering,” he shares.
Local Open Doors partners have been able to visit Oumar, and Hajara, Adama’s widow, to pray with and encourage them.
