Encouragement for Christian Children in Colombia

Indigenous Christian communities in Colombia face harrowing challenges. They are rejected by their own communities and, in some cases, deprived of basic needs. At times, they are imprisoned or even pressured to follow ethnic rituals instead of their Christian beliefs.

This is the case for the indigenous “Nasa” ethnicity, where Christian education has been banned, and Christian families suffer for their faith in Christ. In response, Open Doors provides biblical training sessions to address persecution in a biblical manner and offers trauma support and counselling.

Project funding for chicken coops has also been initiated to address the basic needs of our persecuted brothers and sisters.

But the situation for children is particularly challenging. They must travel two hours to receive quality education based on biblical principles. This means being separated from their families during the week and only being able to reunite with them on weekends.

We want to show Christian children in Colombia that the global Church is standing with them in support, prayer, and action.

Encourage Children in Colombia

In past letter campaigns, we’ve witnessed the radiant smiles on children’s faces as they receive letters from Christians worldwide, knowing that people from different corners of the globe are praying for them and have taken the time to write to them.

Writing Guidelines

  • Keep it Positive: Write messages of hope, encouragement, and love. Let them know that they are valued and cherished.
  • Show Sensitivity: Understand the challenges these children face, and avoid dwelling on their hardships or sharing about the blessings of life in your country. Focus on uplifting them.
  • Keep it Simple: If possible, write in Spanish (you can use online translation tools) or plain English. Write in clear and straightforward language. Avoid using complex words or concepts that may be difficult for them to understand.
  • Include Scripture: If possible, include one or two Bible verses that are uplifting and relevant to their situation.
  • Use Appropriate Content: Send greeting cards, children’s artwork, or postcards that are age-appropriate and culturally sensitive. Ensure that the pictures and lettering are clear and easy to understand.
  • Pray: Pray for the children as you write your letter, asking for God’s protection, provision, and guidance in their lives.
  • Express Genuine Care: Let your compassion and care for these children shine through in your words. Let them know they are loved by God and by you.
