Syria: Church in Aleppo Protected From Massacre

On 13 May 2026, a miracle took place in Aleppo, Syria, when a crowded church of the Syriac Orthodox Archdiocese was saved from a terrible explosion during a funeral service.

At 10:30 a.m., the church was full of people who had come to farewell a loved one. After the prayer ended, a car from the funeral company drove into the churchyard to take the coffin to the cemetery. A congregant noticed a strange object suddenly fall out from under it.

At first, the object seemed unusual, but then they realised it was a bomb. The crowd was terrified. They had all gathered in peace to mourn, but now they ran for their lives.

The police were called and arrived quickly. Official experts confirm that the object was a live, handmade bomb.

One congregant says, “We thank God that the bomb fell off before it exploded. If it had gone off while we were all inside, it would have been a massacre. We are lucky to be alive.”

We thank God for protecting the people in the church today. Thank you Jesus, for revealing the danger before anyone was hurt.

22 Christians Killed Last Year

It wasn’t so long ago that another congregation suffered terrible loss and trauma because of a bomb. In June 2025, a suicide bomber’s attack on Saint Elias church in Dweila, Damascus, killed 22 Christians during Sunday mass.

Pray for all Christians in Syria. May God watch over them as they go to church to pray and worship. May He keep them safe from harm and take away their fear. May their churches be places of peace and safety.

Please pray:

  • For God’s protection over Syria’s Christian congregations. Praise Him for revealing the bomb before it caused untold destruction,
  • For Christians to receive a powerful and unshakeable peace in Christ, and
  • For extremists, that they miraculously find Jesus and become protectors instead of persecutors.
