Over a 12-month period, extremist group, Boko Haram, has been held responsible for approximately 400 violent attacks in Cameroon’s north. 234 of these targeted civilians.
According to reports, this marks a 90% increase in violence compared to previous years.
“Boko Haram is by no means a conquered force and still poses a great risk to Christians across the Lake Chad Basin, the group’s preferred target,” said Jo Newhouse, spokesperson for Open Doors operations in Sub-Saharan Africa.
“The incessant attacks disrupt Christians’ lives and keep them in constant limbo. Most have nowhere else to go. They count on our prayer and support to be able to remain resilient and live fruitful lives despite the dangers they face. Besides, as salt and light, their presence in this region is crucial.”
Cameroon entered the 2020 World Watch List identifying the 50 most dangerous countries for Christians at #48.
In response to the escalating counts of violent persecution, with the help of supporters, Open Doors has continued delivering emergency relief and establishing community development projects to ensure believers in Cameroon can remain in places that desperately need the light of Jesus.
Pray For Cameroon
- Pray that God will bring comfort and healing to those affected by violence.
- Pray believers will stand firm in their faith and continue boldly sharing the gospel.
- Pray God will be transforming the hearts of extremists as a testament to His love and power.
