What Does Persecution Look Like?

Christians in Yemen are mostly converts from Islam who must live out their faith in secret. Yemeni culture is extremely tribal, and the tribal punishment for denouncing Islam can be death or banishment.

Converting from Islam to Christianity is forbidden and new believers are pressured by both the government and their communities to deny their faith in Jesus. They might be arrested, interrogated, or threatened with divorce and loss of custody of their children.

Who Is Most Vulnerable To Persecution?

Yemen is facing one of the biggest humanitarian crises in the world. Christians are some of the most vulnerable since emergency relief is mostly distributed through local Muslim leaders and mosques, who often discriminate against anyone who is not a devout Muslim.

Converts from Islam to Christianity also experience more pressure in the Muslim-controlled areas in the west, which are heavily policed. Christians here risk imprisonment and torture and could even lose their lives.

– Pray for those secretly searching for truth. Pray that they will be able to learn about Jesus.
